President Obama has been harshly criticized by some of his political opponents that he doesn’t understand the American way because of his recent “you didn’t build that” comment. What do you think?

Anything can/cannot sound American when things are taken out of context, or certain wording is removed to make a it suit one’s own interests.
I think the american’s are overreacting to his comment, I don’t believe he would delibratly make a comment to make the people angry, and basically put down small business owners. Why would he make horrible comments, when elections are around the corner, I think the words were so taken out of context.
In reading the comment from Cara, you are making a valid point in asking ‘why’ would he make horrible comments when elections are around the corner? He’s Barack Obama, he can’t help himself. He needs to shut his mouth or those who ‘write’ what he needs to be saying need to do a better job. Clearly he can’t think for himself.
Obama’s statement was clearly taken out of context for the benefit of Romney. Although Obama stated, ‘If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.’” i took from that what many would not. You create a business, but when is anything ever done on your own. When you create a business, you need school, licensing, money, employees, contractors among other things. I think Obama is trying to point out that nothing is ever done alone.
I think Obama was simply stating an opinion, which every person is entitled to have; Americans are far too insecure about being “criticized”, even on such a small level.
I completely agree that everyone has an opinion, but I think Obama went way to far. He is supposed to be seen as a role model a higher power and the fact that he said what he said appalls me. Not everyone gets handed everything they have ever received.
I would have to collaborate with what Juan had to say about Obamas insult to the small business owners . I believe what President Obama said was clearly out to line regardless if he is the president if a random American citizen were to speak out in public and tell hard working American citizen that their businesses weren’t based on them there would deffinently be a conflict. So what makes it different? If Obamas comment was not out if line then answer this, why did he release a short commercial apologizing?
I totally agree with Obama, this country wasn’t built over night. so many people paved the way so that small business owners could realize the possibilty of a small business
