1. What is the potential effect of Palin’s made-up word on her political career?

2. What other politicians were referred to in the video for their make-up of words not in the dictionary; and what impact have these politicians had on Americans?

  1. Well for some people made up words is funny and for others it isnt, its okay to them. My opinion about this is that make sure you dont get teased at or unless she didnt have no knowledge of saying that word was incorrect. What is she trying to prove?

  2. Made up words is an embarrassment to the people cause know one really cares how you wat you say but it the meaning behind it that does the most damage.

For Palin to be making up words in statements she feels strongly about causes the listener to tune out and no longer take the statement seriously. The made up word was out of place and should not have been said at that time without explanation, even though the listener might have some idea as to what she was refering to.

Other polititions known to have made up words are McCain, W.Bush, and Obama. Sometimes it has had a negative effect, but when taken in different kinds of conversations, it has been acceptable.

  4. Christina Mercado

Oh my goodness these people. If she made up the word then she did big deal. Past presidents have done the same so what. I think it is funny myself. Some people just take things to serious in the end they are the ones that look out of place for that.

  5. Charles Peterson

I’m not really sure what she was trying to prove with the word “Refudiate” but i think personally if anything she made more of a fool out of her self not that she could do a whole lot more damage to her political reputation then she has already done in the past. Sarah Palin is a joke period.

  6. Katie Templeton

I don’t understand why Sarah Palin doesn’t just retreat to a cave. She really needs to stop talking. She is making herself and he party look really bad

  7. Elizabeth Duran

Oh my goodness. I could not stop laughing. This word is just funny. I mean I understand that many of us use make up words to have fun. Palin is just trying to fit in and be cool like everyone else. Just stop Ms.Palin. Still a funny word. Wee-weed up hahaha go Obama!

  8. If you are talking with peolpe who understand terms that you use it’s okay to say them, but if you are talking with people who doesn’t understan those terms don’t use them because some of them can make fun of you or don’t understan what you said and it is bad when you are a politician. That’s to have respect for others.

I dont really know what she meant to say when she ‘made up” this word. I think it was pretty foolish of her because in my opinion she just wants to get the media’s attention but what shes getting is pure negative remarks not just from people all oer the world but from the media itself. The way they replayed the part where she said the word “refudiate” made it a little worst and seem like they were just making so much fun of her.

  10. Tiffany Hernandez

I dont really know what Sarah Palin meant to say when she said this word but i think it was pretty foolish of her. In my opinion she was just trying to get the medias attention but what she really got was pure negative remarks not only from people all over the world but from the media itself. The way the media replayed the part where she said the word “refudiate” made it seem like they were making fun of her.

  11. Made up words are sometimes funny and get people to laugh, like what Obama did. I don’t see what is the big issue with using made up words.

  12. I believe that Palin’s made-up word has no major effect on her political career. Many politicians as well as celebrities have made up words which have now been accepted in the dictionary.

  13. Jorge Gonzalez

Palin’s political career is over, and her made-up word is not helping her get back to the game. Bush and Obama made up word.

  14. It’s more likely that everyone will think that she is looking/sounding foolish like they once thought of her. Bush, Obama, McCain also did this. I think it’s foolish, but kind of putting humor into it, in Obama’s point of view.

  15. Krystal Duncans

In what I have observed, Sarah Palin is not a political member that is taken seriously. People always say negative things about her already so I would think that this would only add to her “ditzy” image. Other politicians refered to in the video were Presidents Bush and Obama.

  16. Her making words up makes people not take her serious. It is okay for us regular folks to make words up, but not okay for someone trying to make a life in politics. Others who have made up words are Bush and Obama. It has had no effect on their careers. Of course, they are all ready in office.

  17. I understand that sometimes people make mistakes but for Palin its her signature. She is an idiot and you can tell just by listening to her. If she is going to make a speech on national television she should check what language she is speaking. For a politician specially one that was running for vice president to be so stupid really shows that sometimes the top people have no business being in office and representing others.

  18. 1. What is the potential effect of Palin’s made-up word on her political career?
I think that people and critics bring up little mistakes that public figures make to try and embarass them. However i think that Palin and the other presidents, Bush and Obama, that were mentioned in this video were just trying to add a little humor to their speeches and show a little personality.

  19. wow some people are just cazy, making up things to say is vary negative. this is the USA it is hard to get away with anything.

  20. Jovanna Vargas

I believe that Sarah and John are exactly the same and they believe in the same things. By using ‘refudiate’ says a lot of what they are really about.

  21. Chris Markowski

To be honest it showed that they weren’t truely thinking before they spoke, and that could translate into acting before they thought.
Bush added words into the dictionary and showed that he was kind of an idiot, and the same thing with Obama but he did it to poke fun at others which in my opinion is just as childish and immature as the others.

  22. Mayerlin Padilla

Sarah Palin made her fool out of herself by making up that word. By her doing that, people obviously are not going to take her seriously. It’s alright when when other people do it but not for someone whose in the politican role. Others that have made up words too are McCain, Bush, and Obama.

  23. Palin is already viewed as a joke in her political career from the 08 presidential election, but with things like this going on, she will always be known as the jester of politics.

George Bush, John McCain, and Barrack Obama have been mentioned in the video. Obama said his new word in a joking manner while others made up their word.

  24. I think it shows how uneducated she is. Which is sad because she could do a lot of good for those that appreciate that sort of thing. (yah she is a sort of thing) It also goes to show how egomaniacal she is thinking it does not matter that she spoke a word that did not exist but she was worthy of coining new ones. YIKES!

  25. it is very unprofessional for public figures to create words and then try to defend on them a twitter site, those sites are mainly used by young people while they are young once they grow up and start having family and get real jobs they stop using sites like that because they are more mature, she needs to delete her twitter account and stop with child like explanations saying why she said it

  26. I do not really know what Palin is trying to do with this, the made up word was just out of place. She is a political, public, figure; she must try to be a little more serious for her own good. I do not think this could harm her image and her political career more than it already is.

George W. Bush, McCain and Obama are refered in the video for making up words; sometimes, depending the occasion, may have a negative effect.

  27. I don’t have a problem with making up words but for a political figure, hmmmmm Im not sure about it. I think that Sarah Palin was trying to sound smart but since people do not take her seriously, they thought it was funny, and even when she was defending her new word, no one took her seriously because by doing stuff like this, people lose respect from others.

  28. I think there should be more professionalism as far as our representatives are involved. These political figures have to understand that they’re under constant watch, both within the nation, and across the world. When other countries see our politicians defending their mistakes, and showing disregard and disrespect for our very language, do they honestly expect to be taken seriously? If we’re ashamed and embarrassed by them what must other countries think? They’re in positions of power that reflect on all of us and should act as such. If it had been in a different context, like with friends off-camera but overheard by others, then it would be more acceptable. When you’re in the middle of a serious debate however, then you lose much credibility by acting like an uneducated, stubborn child. And to be fair, she didn’t have much credibility to stand on before this faux-pas. And that’s aside from the negligent use, and delusional thought, of using Twitter as a form of respected communication.

  29. Dis is actually pretty funny because me and da homies do dis quite a bit and we call it “fobbing out”. Its really common among samoans and tamasi’is.

  30. Michael Yoon Chung

Rejection means the non-acceptance of something deemed to be wrong. Refute means proving something wrong. If that thing is known to be wrong, then it will be rejected.

  31. i do not think that it is okay for political figures to try and make words up, even if they are trying to be cool it is not okay for them to use slang or any thing like that.

  32. Michelle Navrro

I think it takes the professional look off of someone if they make up words or use slang.Especially someone who is representing the government.

  33. The potential effect of Palin’s made-up word on her political career made people see her as an uneducated politician. Most of the public didnt take her seriously.Bush Mc Cain and Obama were other politicians referred in the video for their make-up of words not in the dictionary. Americans havent took some of them serious. Although i beleive obama’s word, was intentionaly said and was intended for slight humor. Now mc cain, bush, and palin…

  34. Beatrice Quintero

embarrassing for Sarah palin, she should find something else to do. After 2008 Palin political career came to an end, people don’t take her serious now.

  35. Know at days every seems to be making up their own word, even if its not in the dictonary. Do you want to be funny or do you want to make sense? Sara Palin need to learn from her previouse mistakes or maybe go back to school to learn approriate vocabulary.

  36. Cristal Marquez

Ah….people make up words all the time she said it publicly and she Sarah Palin so they made fum of her whats new. Bush and Obama were also in the video their human they make mistakes.

  37. I think any performance it has to be pretty clear if she wants to be successful in what she is doing. Sometimes people don’t understand the signification of some works so that the person how is talking in from of millions of people has to be understandable. This king of term that she is using are not right that moment because the society won’t understand the ideas she is propose.

  38. I think that making up words is funny. But they can sometimes make a bad effect on a person. specially for Sarah Palin who made a fool of herself. I also believe that it is just being human to make some mistakes and it does not matter when or where one can be it can happend to anyone.

  39. Elaine DelosReyes

I do not think that Sarah Palin’s made up word has a major effect on her political career. Everyone makes mistakes. Making up words may not be professional, but just because of this mistake it should not judge her as a person.

  40. For Palin to be making up words while she is trying to prove a point she feels strongly about is embarrasing. In order for a politician to be taken seriously by the American people they need to at least prove that they are able to speak. I understand that people make mistakes but Bush was a person that was always caught making up his own language.

  41. Point blank, don’t come up with your own vocabulary because people will not understand you. Palin made a mistake that she is now being criticized for even though she is an educated women. If one is speaking in public it is best to consult a dictionary before speaking to avoid humiliating moments.

  42. Her political career just keeps getting worse each time she opens her mouth. Public figures should be careful with what they say, because they sound unprofessional.

George Bush and Obama were mentioned in the video; they also made up some words. These kinds of mistakes only made Bush and Obama sound less intelligent.

  43. Sandra Hernandez

Palin could now be looked as a joke. Bush and McCain may also be taken less seriously. Obama seemed to be humorous.

  44. I think it will ruin her political career because it proofs that something is not right like she might me overwhelmed and she cant handle the pressure or something.

  45. Jennifer Garcia

The effect of Palin’s made-up word on her political career made people see her as an uneducated politician. Bush and McCain also made up words in the dictionary which didn’t make them sound any smarter.

  46. Many people makes up word when they talk. However, politicians better not make up words, because, it seems like they are joking. Also, people can make fun of what she saids. She should think before she speak on the public.

  47. Palin’s words are not serious. Whatever she says in the media seems funny and she does not seem to take it serious anymore. She is loosing the respect from the Americans as a politician because of her unskilled way of political act. Obama, Bush, and McCain have this trouble before but were taken serious even after a negative effect.

  48. I disagree with the fact that Palin’s made up words would be potential effect on her political career. As we are human, we make mistakes and one mistake coudn’t be so potential that affect her political career. She was not the first one who said that “refudiate”. Maybe next time, she can prepare more next time. Bush’s misunderestimate, and Obama’s wee weed up were also concerned in the Video.

  49. Palin saying anything is just wrong, there’s a reason why she has a pretty face. She needs to sit quietly and keep her comments to herself. Palin gives a bad image about Americans to the world. Obama hahaha..he has good timing. Palin she tries too hard, her career down the drain.
Past president mentioned in the videos were Obama, and Bush W. The made up words does not affect their careers, Bush’s is over more dead then anything else. The words only help Obama.

  50. Sarah Palin, even the name is painful to say. Her ability to further make a ridicule of herself is astonishing, so much so that she should really be rewarded for how good she is at it. It is understood that making up words is not an uncommon occurrence by politicians, such as the video suggest like Obama and bush. Given her situation politically however, i would be careful about doing things like that. Her explanation of the word on social networking sites such as twitter and face book further make her look more ridiculous.

  51. This word may affect her politically. Who wants a a person who makes up words in office? If she makes up words does she also make up lies? It’s all left to interpretation really. Former president Obama was metioned for making up the word “wee-wee”.

  52. shakespeare is probably turning in his grave. Sara palin is doing a great job of making a joke out of herself and making sure the public never take her serious. The good news about this is that is going to make a funny 3 minute skit on Saturday Night Live. Go palin.
